Cancun, Isla Mujeres...Mexico

Our jetBlue flight out of FLL had us in CUN by 10:00am! We were greeted by the driver we had pre arranged and enjoyed the 25 minute drive to the Casa Magna hotel. The hotel was gorgeous, our room was decorated with a baha Mexican flair, equipped with a flat screen tv and the most comfortable King size bed I've ever slept in. We had an HUGE balcony with an amazing view of the ocean, we slept with the balcony doors open so we could hear the waves throughout the night. We were in our bathing suits within 5 minutes of getting to our room. The pool at our hotel was gorgeous, we spent that whole first morning there relaxing. The ocean was just below the pool, and the ocean water was the most amazing color of (Azul) blue. Tommy met 2 older men from Missouri with whom he shared many coronas (see photos below) that night we went into Cancun for dinner. This was our first bus experience. it cost 15 pesos for us both to ride which is about $1.40 this and the boat is how we got around during our stay. We rode the bus into an area way past Cancun without quite so many tourists and enjoyed the local market. We purchased fresh bread just out of the oven for about 10cents a loaf. We bought cheese, fruit, and wine and nibbled on it as snacks on our balcony at night. on our third day we took the bus to La Tortuga and boarded a Ferry to La Isla mujeres (The Island of woman). Here we shopped along the streets and had the most amazing lunch on te beach. We shared Guacamole, and Civiche. Tommy drank Sol and ate fajitas and I had a fish fillet off the grill that was absolutely the best fish I have ever eaten. Our total bill came to 185 pesos which is about $14!!!! We couldn't believe it, what a deal! The most interesting site on the Island was the graves, it was just beautiful. The way they bury their loved ones is much different than how we do things here. We even saw the graves of a famous Pirate named Fermin Anonio Mundaca. Engraved on his head stone are the words (in Spanish) "As you are now, I once was. How I am now, you will be." This is the picture of the gray tombstone with a skull on it. We had such an amazing time and were happy to see another area of Mexico than our original vacation last year to Tulum. We look forward to Cozumel in February, which is one of our ports on the Cruise Wedding!!
